Selling Your Old Car For Scrap Metal

Old cars that are no longer running and starting to show their age can be hard to sell. The vehicle is often not worth a lot, and you may find that the easiest way to sell it is to find junk car buyers in your area and see what they will offer you for it.

Junk Cars

It is easy to picture a junk car as a rusted old pile of metal stripped to the shell and not worth much, but that is not always the case. A car that is considered a junk car could still be in decent shape, but the cost of repairing it to make it road-worthy would be more than the car's value.

Often, selling a car like this isn't easy because people do not want a vehicle they have to spend a lot of money fixing. On the other hand, junk car buyers will pay you for the car and haul it away, and often, it does not matter if the vehicle runs or if it's rusted and stripped.

Junk Buyers

The junk car buyers purchase these old cars because they can remove the plastic, rubber, and anything that is not metal from the vehicle and then recycle the metal. The job is not easy because the entire car needs to be gone through and prepared before going to the recycler.

The gas tank, the interior, the hoses and belts, and the tires all need to be removed. You can recycle the fuel tank, but you must drain the fuel first, and if the engine and transmission are still in the vehicle, the junk car buyer needs to drain the oil from them before they can scrap the vehicle.

This process is why junk car buyers don't pay a lot for a car, but if they are willing to pay you and remove the vehicle, you'll at least be making some money off of it.

Finding a Buyer

If you live in a large city or town, it is often not hard to find these junk car buyers because they advertise all over the place. In that situation, you may want to call several buyers and see what they each offer for the car because the price they are willing to pay could be significantly different.

In small towns, you may not have many people doing this work, so you may need to take to the internet to search out and find junk car buyers that will come and make an offer on your old car. Keep in mind that they will try and get the car cheap, but you can always decline the offer if you feel it is not a fair price.
